Use of the colour wheel for lighting and shading
I want to talk about some simple things that even professional photomanipulators don't give enough attention sometimes.
It's the reason why our work can be perceived as wrong a bit , especially by traditional artists. People who are not artists usually say “something's wrong”
Our theme for today is colour of light and shadow.
I want to point out – there are many colour schemes and rules for that (it would be better to write an individual tutorial on that),
some are better for realistic works, some for surrealism, some for abstraction etc. It depends on your idea.
One of the things I mentioned in my journal about social interaction was that you should only watch a person on DeviantArt when you were genuinely interested. While that states the obvious, the statement sort of backlashed on me, and many people called me a hypocrite for saying the above thing, because I've been advertising my profile at dAhub (https://www.deviantart.com/dahub) and apparently that's one of those things you shouldn't do.
However, I wouldn't be me if I didn't think of this as bullshit.
I've been calling this whole "marketing is evil" statement on DA utter nonsense before, and I will do it again. Because it actually is. It makes completely no sense to be on
How to get more exposure for your art. by jadecillustrations, journal
How to get more exposure for your art.
I was recently asked for some advice on getting exposure as an artist. Here's my own advice with personal reasons as to why I suggest them. This is not a post for 'bragging', if you take it that way, then please stop reading *i mean this in the nicest way orz* This is stating facts from my experience. What worked for me and what doesn't work. It shows how my own art has gained exposure throughout the years and how yours can too. I am not a fantastic artist, I know what I'm good at and what I struggle with. I work hard for what I know I can push out and I do it proudly. I hope this post will help you earn more followers and give you a bit of
I think every artist out here has experienced it at least one time in their career: the so called artblock. A moment of total lack of inspiration that suddenly hits you, and leaves you unable to create. Most often the solution is to just wait. Most artblocks will solve automatically with time. But there are circumstances in which an artblock doesn't automatically disappear, or when you have deadlines to catch. In that case, you might be helped by some basic tips to conquer your artblock.
Over the years, I've experienced an artblock (or writersblock, as they call it for fiction writers) many, many times. Most of them were short, but the longe

100 Questions to Ask Your OC
Hello, folks! The purpose of this exercise is to delve deep into a character's mind and tease out interesting eccentricities about them, the bits and pieces of unique information that make them special. Each question is designed to help think about the character more and understand them. Whether you're responding to one question or all of them, hopefully your character speaks to you all through it!
PERSONALITY PROFILE
1. People don't behave the same way all the time. In fact, they generally have a mask for every social group -- friends, family, business. Sometimes they have a different mask for different groups of friends. How does your
I would like to move a very specific thread.
It's about the price of art and commissions. Because there are a lot of questions; what decides for the price of art? Why it is worthy? And why do we buy commissions?
Some is already written here: http://goldenwolf.deviantart.com/journal/26548172/#comments
I've met with many people who were complaining about the price of art, especially why it is expensive and it doesnt deserve. Even some person did a drama just because prices of my art are *too* expensive. And I'm not alone, I've saw on some proffessional artists who are on dA as well.
I noticed the price of art on deviantART is very low.

Say NO to the Internet Prices
I've been observing a situation of the artist who courageously set up their prices on very decent prices (in meaning: no more 50 bucks full color image of yer characters! but almost 200$ one for her really nice character painting) where I felt so proud of her for being brave to set up the real price of the art. But I was also a witness of bunch of complaining people (mostly I noticed they were young) screaming that her art is not worth for shitload bucks.
I really wanted to slap faces of these people.
Really, who decide that someone's art is worth that price?
You do not decide how much wort is my art - as my work.
You do not know how muc
